Episode 56: Matthew Hussey - Ericsson

Today we sit down with Matthew Hussey. Matthew is the new Director of Government Affairs and Public Policy at Ericsson.

Now for those of you who didn’t know, (myself included) Ericsson is based in Sweden, founded by Lars Ericsson, with revenue in the hundreds of billions, 95,000 employees and over 40,000 patents! The company specializes in mobile and broadband networks – including services, software, equipment – you name it – such as the 2G,3G and 4G networks.

Matthew has only been with Ericsson for about two months, so we spent most of our time talking about his other very cool jobs, with ALEC, Sen. Olympia Snowe and the FCC.

If you work on policy and you work for a U.S. Senator, how many meetings do you think you have a day with stakeholders and constituents? The answer is - at least five! Then you have to go back to your desk and do your work.

And, if you worked for Sen. Snowe, and she asked you what time it was - she wanted to know how the watch was made. No detail was too small.

You could say details are Matthew’s thing. He studied electrical engineering at Georgia Tech. Smart guy.
